First week of bringing lunch to work everyday? Success! I found it pretty enjoyable packing snacks and lunch instead of walking to one of the nearby restaurants to get food. Plus, it beats going out in the bitter cold! I was using brown paper bags and plastic zip locks - but tossing those out after every use, I found it wasteful. So I decided to buy a lunch bag and some tuber-ware.

Picked up a BYO chomp lunch bag and a thermos for my soups on clearance at Target! Looking forward to packing more lunch! I'm strange, I know. hah

With Quoc Khanh. Handsome isn't he? hehe I was hoping he'd sing Tinh Xuan, which is on the playlist, but bummer, he didn't

With the awesome Nhu Quynh.
Fun night with Phuong, TP, and Brandi.

Not to mention Birmingham Restaurant Weeks during Jan 31-Feb 3 & Feb 7-Feb 11. Working in this area doesn't help much at all...
I attended the Mung Xuan Tan Mao 2011 concert at Motorcity Casino tonite, thanks to TP for the extra ticket. The show included performances by Helena Hong Ngoc, Tran Thai Hoa, Ngoc Ha, Nhu Quynh, Quoc Khanh, and the awesome Liberty Band. My favorite performances was TTH's Co Hang Nuoc, NH's Ai Ra Xu Hue, NQ's Nua Vang Trang and Nguoi Tinh Mua Dong, and QK's Tinh Yeu Vang Trang.

Also, I brought back the Nhac Xuan playlist to make it feel a little more like Spring. =)

I ate too much....this weekend and the days following. Eating a lot and eating late is no good. Why LeLe? Why'd you do it?! Family and friends, feel special...I did it for y'all. =) Jk. Its just so difficult passing up good food!
Thursday: Phuong made Hu Tieu for dinner

Saturday: Night out in Windsor, Canada. 29th & Park and Dim Sum at Jade Restaurant

The Eats!

More Eats and Drinks. Debbie pulled me over to the Nectar of the Vine stall for some Wine Frappes - it was her first time consuming alcohol, she got a little carried away with the free samples. hehe They were really good, thinking about ordering some of their mix.

The Arts and Ice Cream. Vanilla Ice Cream dipped in toasted coconut - Yum!
Too pressed for time, we didn't get to check out the Beats. It's okay though, Hanh and I were headed to a music/comedy show that night.

Performances by: Quynh Vi, Thanh An, Nguyen Khang, and someone else...forgot her name. Comedy show by the fobulous and hilarious duo: Hong Dao & Quang Minh. We became Thanh An Fans. We left during intermission (the songs were okay), so didn't get to see more of his performances. It was nice seeing the comedians in person though.
Monday: Dim Sum at Golden Harvest in the afternoon. No one had Labor Day plans so we decided to have Hot-Pot and invited a few friends over. Then to Apple Bee's for drinks and desert.

Lau Chao Vit/Duck and Soybean Paste Hot Pot

Bo Tom Chien Bo/Butter Grilled Beef & Shrimp
Tuesday: Visited out-of-town niece and nephew, I had Ga Bop with Cabbage for the first time, it was really good. Thanks Thuong =) I don't think I can eat it when Thanh makes it though...too spicy!
Wednesday: Dave & Busters with some friends.
Much needed sleep and gotta try to get rid of the damage I caused to myself now.
Thursday: Phuong made Hu Tieu for dinner
Saturday: Night out in Windsor, Canada. 29th & Park and Dim Sum at Jade Restaurant
Sunday: Family Reunion, Art's Beats and Eats, and Mua He Ruc Ro Show

Like I've said before, nothing beats the combination of family, food, and fun. This past week, I've been able to reunite with family and friends I haven't see in years, acquaint some cool folks, and connect with relatives I've never met. Recapping the fun-filled week:
Last Tuesday, Niece Linda was in town so we decided to meet up for lunch. I think it's been maybe 4 or 5 years since I've seen her. Catching up with family was nice.

Kona Calamari

Sushi and Salad

Macadamia Nut Chicken. A favorite.
Dinner at Tokyo Sushi on Wednesday with Niece Thuong, her fiance Nephew Hau, the sister, and some friends.
Dinner at Golden Harvest on Thursday with Vang, Ly, The Bride and Groom to be, and a few members of the bridal party.
Pre-Wedding Party Friday Night at The Bank.

Sister Phuong made banh beo Saturday Night. Too busy fixing myself a plate and ready to eat that I forgot to take a snapshot of the deliciousness! We headed to MGM that night with the nieces, nephews, and new found cousins. No Luck - Lost 15 buckaroos =( hehe I'm no risk taker..no gambler.
The Reception on Sunday. Congrats David and Linda!

I started taking pictures of the dishes, but halfway through the meal...everyone at our table already wandered off to greet family and friends.
Monday: Stay in to get as much sleep as possible.
Girls night out with Niece Thanh and Cousin Liz Tuesday night.
Dinner at Bar Louie

Angry Louie w/ Sriracha, fire sauce, fried jalapeno, and pepper jack. Yum! Tasted like a vietnamese style burger.

White Louie. Pizza was good, but loved the crust!

Loaded Tots. These were so good!
Walked over to Tin Fish for drinks and desert.

Cheers!

Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Mint Chocolate. Winner: Tiramisu
Bar Louie and Tin Fish are two of my favorite places now. Good food. Good prices. Awesome music.

Last Saturday, the family and I was invited to a wonderful dinner prepared by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Dining on the floor Vietnamese Style is the way to go!

Beef wrapped in grape/pepper(?)leaves | Bo Nuong La Nho/La Lot

Lemongrass Chicken Stirfry | Ga Xao Xa

Braised Catfish in a Caramel Sauce | Ca Kho To (this dish is showing up a lot in the last few posts huh?)

Wouldn't be complete without a Vegetable Platter | Rau Song
Sour Fish Soup | Canh Chua Ca also on the menu - not pictured.
On Sunday, the munchkins were over. They got a little bored after watching T.V., youtubing disney videos, and hearing my short answers to their questions. To give us something to do, I gathered up some paper, crayons, and colored pencils so we could draw. They decided we should make a book.

The first few pages of our book. The kid's imagination gave me a pretty good laugh. Kel's M&M flower and triangular shaped leafs. Lyn's blue gray sun and flowers made of star and heart shaped petals. Kids are so creative and imaginative - I love it! Can't wait to add more pages and see what else they've got to throw down paper. Being a kid again is nice.
Yesterday, little bro turned a whopping 18 years old! Happy Birthday young one!

Birthday Dinner: Hot Pot with the family and cousins

Hot Pot with Butter | Chien Bo

Hot Pot with Soup | Nhung Nuoc

MiGnon Cake from Produce Palace. One of our family's favorite.
Watching:
Amazing race: Not so great season so far - but rooting for my cowboys!
Undercover Boss: Great show. Very touching.
Stars Falling From the Sky: The "it" Kdrama right now. The first 5 episode had me in tears. Not draggy. Great cast. Good storyline. And super cute! Started it a week ago, now I'm all caught up for the last two episodes to air next week.
